1. Preparation

  • Tools and Materials: You will need a two-phase stepper motor, stepper driver, power wires, motor wires, controller (e.g., Arduino or PLC), screwdriver, and a multimeter.
  • Safety Tip: Ensure the power is off during the wiring process to avoid electric shock or damage to the equipment.

2. Overview of the Stepper Motor and Driver

  • Stepper Motor Introduction: A two-phase stepper motor is driven by current pulses, and it moves a fixed angle with each pulse. It usually has four output wires corresponding to the two-phase windings.
  • Driver Function: The driver converts control signals into current pulses to drive the motor.

3. Wiring Steps

3.1 Identifying the Stepper Motor Wires
  • Stepper motors usually have four wires, representing A+, A-, B+, and B- respectively, corresponding to the two-phase windings of the motor. You can directly short-circuit any two wires and turn the shaft of the motor by hand to observe whether it can rotate easily. If it can, it means that these two wires are not in the same group of wirings. On the contrary, if it can't rotate easily, they are in the same group. 3.2 Connecting the Stepper Motor to the Driver
  • Connect the identified motor wires to the driver's output terminals. Connect A+ and A- to the A-phase outputs and B+ and B- to the B-phase outputs of the driver.
  • Ensure the connections are secure to avoid loose contacts.

4. Power Up and Testing

  • After wiring is complete, power on the system and run the control program. Test if the motor rotates smoothly and if the direction and step size are correct.
  • If the motor rotates in the wrong direction, switch the direction signal on the controller. If the motor doesn't move, check the signal wires or power supply.
